First came the iPhone. Then the G1.
And soon, the Storm will…uh, storm on to the scene. Each phone with unique features, each with unique drawbacks.
But it is definitely a boon to consumers in many ways that HTC and RIM have crashed Apple’s party. It may be that we have already seen the price decrease this added competition would cause, but we surely should, even with lower consumer demand, see more features and new versions which improve upon these models.
It’s inconvenient, to be sure, that these phones come with “mobile carrier baggage” (all phones are exclusive to a single carrier to date) – however, it still seems satisfying to US consumers to get the lower prices that these arrangements bring, so so be it!
We won’t go into the head to head feature comparison, but the Storm and HTC seem to have an edge in the memory expansion, the HTC in the keyboard area, and I would be willing to bet that Blackberry will have a push email advantage. Of course, the iPhone still seems to have the best overall usability and coolness.
Next year should be an interesting one for the handset space…
