It is once again time for a CTC New Haven Innovation Cell Meeting – note, I can send this post out directly after my last without a trace of irony! Social networks absolutely value…although Web 2.0 companies may vary in that regard…

Every founder’s story has a common element – serendipity. Some meeting, comment, partner or mistake lead to the “big break”. These serendipitous moments are never planned. For all of human history these moments are driven by proximity. The Starbucks in San Jose has 16 serendipitous events each morning! Modern social networking technologies are an engine for virtual proximity and therefore real serendipity to happen.
This discussion, led by serial entrepreneur Andy Greenawalt, will be about bringing Connecticut’s numerous groups into one virtual community through social networking.
Bio
According to the recommendations in his LinkedIn profile, Andy is “a true visionary” who “gets it” and has the ability “to see where it is going, and how it can be practically done.” As a “uniquely talented technology visionary” with the “ability to postulate and envision at countless layers of abstraction simultaneously… it quickly becomes clear that his focus, broad and massive as it may be, maintains unprecedented clarity and contextual relevance on many levels.” Andy has the ability to “see into tomorrow.”
As a leader ,Andy has the “inspirational ability to chart a complex course in simple steps.” He challenges “people to look beyond the obvious in their thinking” and, as an “innovative thinker” demands it of those around him. He is a “motivator, a great strategic thinker.”
While it’s become clear that Mr. Greenawalt has either paid, or duped, his LinkedIn contacts, he has actually done stuff. Andy has founded four companies, one of which is dead, two in a state of becoming, and the last a wonderful success.
As the founder of Perimeter eSecruity, he pioneered the security as a service industry. Perimeter eSecurity has been one of the fastest growing companies in the country with over a dozen awards to its credit including many growth awards from CRN, Fast 50 & 500 and was twice the Connecticut Innovations portfolio company of the year. While at Perimeter, he served as the CTO and on the board of directors. Andy is currently the President of Gnostic Ventures, a SaaS consulting and investment company, and the CEO of Continuity Engine, a SaaS company serving the community banking market.
He studied philosophy and linguistics at UMass Amherst, is on the board of the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute and is an Entrepreneur Partner in Residence for the CTech, a technology business accelerator in New Haven founded by Connecticut Innovations, Launch Capital and United Illuminating.
Finally, according Andy’s LinkedIn profile, “He’s got a great sense of humor!”
The New Haven Innovators Cell group was founded with the purpose of furthering innovation, creativity and collaboration to support economic growth in New Haven and Connecticut. It is also intended to assist the budding entrepreneur who is seeking advice, funding counsel and mentors to help with his/her idea.
