On Tuesday night, the cast of characters behind GoogleHaven, the Left to Right Movement, and Social Web Week Connecticut retold the story of how we came to be smack dab in the middle of a social media festival in New Haven. They also made some announcement which promise to improve New Haven’s vitality and its attractiveness as a place to live and do business.
Here’s a transcript of the basic story of GoogleHaven, as told from Andre Yap’s perspective. (Andre’s enthusiasm and effort have been crucial to the progress). The story was told as tag theater.
Some of the important parts of the retelling (and the ongoing story):
- Mayor DeStefano named Sean Matteson, his chief of staff, to head up New Haven’s social media efforts. (Watch more at Ripple100),
- While Google Fiber may not come to New Haven, the process of mobilizing the community has had its own rewards, as the effort has become something more than just an application.
- The effort really depended on a large cast of characters, and is truly a grassroots movement – but one which the City has embraced and been a crucial part of.
Some great pictures were also taken by Matt at BSCdesign. Enjoy.
